Responsibilities
Milwaukee Renaissance Academy welcomes teachers who relentlessly pursue student growth and who consistently strive to improve their skills as effective classroom teachers. Listed below are examples of typical job duties (or responsibilities):
- Provide academically rigorous, standards-based instruction each day
- Assist in the design and implementation of research-based curriculum
- Document and submit all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, grading policies, and other curricular materials
- Use data driven instruction including tracking and individual student plans
- Record detailed data analysis of student performance to inform best practices
- Maintain accurate (and current) students records
- Invest and engage students through data, informal conferences, formative assessments, and appropriately paced instruction
- Create and administer 6 week assessments based on the WI State Standards
- Work closely with the Academic Dean and the Director of Student Support to develop and implement strategies for all students to reach success
- Reinforce school-wide rules, discipline, and expectations
- Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families and colleagues
- Collaborate with staff and colleagues at school-wide, grade-level, and content-level meetings
- Participate in professional growth by being a reflective practitioner
- Operate with a sense of urgency
- Maintain flexibility when faced with challenges
- Assist in student arrival and departure, transitions between class periods, and lunch periods
- Lead an advisory period and assist in the supervision of homework club
- Teach enrichment and learning team
- Teach one Saturday Opportunity Day each semester
- Complete tasks assigned by the Executive Director or Academic Dean
Qualifications and Experience
- Successful manager of an classroom who uses structure, incentives, and high expectations to drive student success
- Demonstrates through previous work quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local standards
- Ability to teach to a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting
- Demonstrates ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members
- Analytical problem solver with a basic understanding of data analysis
- Ability to focus when presented with a wide variety of tasks
- Maintains a professional demeanor
- Urban teaching, certification in the subject area to be taught, and advanced degrees in education or content area preferred
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
Start Date
Exceptional candidates will assume a full time role no later than August 1, 2008.
